A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6/7 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function substringData. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Heap-based buffer overflow in the substringData method in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and 7 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code, related to an unspecified manipulation of a DOM object before a call to this method, aka the "HTML Objects Memory Corruption Vulnerability."
The issue has been introduced in 03/22/2001. The weakness was released 06/10/2008 by Peter Vreugdenhil with ZDI as MS08-031 as confirmed bulletin (Technet).
