A vulnerability was found in Apple Safari 3.0.1 (Web Browser). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function settimeout. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Apple Safari 3.0.1 beta (522.12.12) on Windows allows remote attackers to modify the window title and address bar while filling the main window with arbitrary content by setting the location bar and using setTimeout() to create an event that modifies the window content, which could facilitate phishing attacks.
The bug was discovered 06/22/2007. The weakness was released 06/14/2007 by Robert Swiecki (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-2398 since 04/30/2007. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
