A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Apple Mac OS X up to 10.4.8 (Operating System). Affected by this vulnerability is the function setRequestHeader of the component WebCore. CRLF injection vulnerability in WebCore in Apple Mac OS X 10.3.9, 10.4.9 and later, and iPhone before 1.0.1, allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary HTTP headers via LF characters in an XMLHttpRequest request, which are not filtered when serializing headers via the setRequestHeader function. NOTE: this issue can be leveraged for cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.
The bug was discovered 06/22/2007. The weakness was released 06/25/2007 by Richard Moore with WESTPOINT as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-2401 since 04/30/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 3 days.
