Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in GNOME GLib up to 2.86.4/2.88.0. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function gvs_tuple_is_normal of the file glib/gvariant-serialiser.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer over-read vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-126. The product reads from a buffer using buffer access mechanisms such as indexes or pointers that reference memory locations after the targeted buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, and availability. CVE summarizes:

A flaw was found in GLib. An off-by-one error can occur in the gvs_tuple_is_normal function in the glib/gvariant-serialiser.c file when doing an alignment padding check because the bounds check uses > instead of >=, causing an out-of-bounds read of only 1 byte. This issue can cause a minor information disclosure of 1 byte and a denial of service when the out-of-bounds read crosses a page boundary.

The advisory is shared for download at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-58010 since 06/26/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely.
