The GD Graphics Library (libgd) before 2.0.35 allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a GIF image that has no global color map.
The bug was discovered 04/04/2007. The weakness was disclosed 06/28/2007 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at libgd.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-3475 since 06/28/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 85 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. Upgrading to version 2.0.34 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 3 years after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
