A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Moodle 1.7.1 (Learning Management Software). This issue affects some unknown processing of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument search with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in index.php in Moodle 1.7.1 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a style expression in the search parameter, a different vulnerability than CVE-2004-1424.
