Integer overflow in the Open function in modules/demux/tta.c in VLC Media Player 0.8.6i allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted TTA file, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

The weakness was presented 08/18/2008 by g_ with Orange Bat (Website). The advisory is available at orange-bat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-3732 since 08/20/2008. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by g_ and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
