Microsoft Windows Vista through SP1 and Server 2008 do not properly import the default IPsec policy from a Windows Server 2003 domain to a Windows Server 2008 domain, which prevents IPsec rules from being enforced and allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions.
The weakness was disclosed 08/12/2008 with Microsoft as MS08-047 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-2246 since 05/16/2008. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
