Linux Kernel up to 7.0.10 batman-adv toctou

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.10 and classified as very critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component batman-adv. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a toctou vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-367. The product checks the state of a resource before using that resource, but the resource's state can change between the check and the use in a way that invalidates the results of the check. This can cause the product to perform invalid actions when the resource is in an unexpected state. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: batman-adv: tt: fix TOCTOU race for reported vlans The local TT based TVLV is generated by first checking the number of VLANs which have at least one TT entry. A new buffer with the correct size for the VLANs is then allocated. Only then, the list of VLANs s used to fill the VLAN entries in the buffer. During this time, the meshif_vlan_list_lock is held. But the actual number of TT entries of each VLAN can still increase during this time - just not the number of VLANs in the list. But the prefilter used in the buffer size calculation might still cause an increase of the number of VLANs which need to be stored. Simply because a VLAN might now suddenly have at least one entry when it had none in the pre-alloc check - and then needs to occupy space which was not allocated. It is better to overestimate the buffer size at the beginning and then fill the buffer only with the VLANs which are not empty.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-64091 since 07/19/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/19/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.10.259, 5.15.210, 6.1.176, 6.6.143, 6.12.93, 6.18.34 or 7.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
