Linux Kernel up to 7.0.10 Cortina gmac_rx Remote Code Execution

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.10 and classified as very critical. This issue affects the function gmac_rx of the component Cortina. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a remote code execution vulnerability. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: ethernet: cortina: Make RX SKB per-port The SKB used to assemble packets from fragments in gmac_rx() is static local, but the Gemini has two ethernet ports, meaning there can be races between the ports on a bad day if a device is using both. Make the RX SKB a per-port variable and carry it over between invocations in the port struct instead. Zero the pointer once we call napi_gro_frags(), on error (after calling napi_free_frags()) or if the port is stopped. Zero it in some place where not strictly necessary just to emphasize what is going on. This was found by Sashiko during normal patch review.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-64056 since 07/19/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/19/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.10.258, 5.15.209, 6.1.175, 6.6.142, 6.12.92, 6.18.34 or 7.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
