A vulnerability was found in PHP 5.2.3 (Programming Language Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function imagepsloadfont in the library lib/t1lib/t1env.c. The manipulation of the argument FileName with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in the intT1_EnvGetCompletePath function in lib/t1lib/t1env.c in t1lib 5.1.1 allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long FileName parameter. NOTE: this issue was originally reported to be in the imagepsloadfont function in php_gd2.dll in the gd (PHP_GD2) extension in PHP 5.2.3.
The weakness was released 07/27/2007 by Hamid Ebadi (r0ut3r) with PHP (Website). The advisory is shared at redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-4033 since 07/27/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
