Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc2 Mpl115 mpl115_read_raw denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.144/6.12.96/6.18.38/7.1.3/7.2-rc2. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function mpl115_read_raw of the component Mpl115. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: pressure: mpl115: fix runtime PM leak on read error mpl115_read_raw() takes a runtime PM reference with pm_runtime_get_sync() before reading the processed pressure or raw temperature, but on the read error path it returns without calling pm_runtime_put_autosuspend(). Each failed read therefore leaks a runtime PM reference and prevents the device from autosuspending. Drop the reference before checking the return value so both the success and error paths are balanced.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-64493 since 07/19/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 6.6.145, 6.12.97, 6.18.39, 7.1.4 or 7.2-rc3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 5022f4ed5aae974ec530e3cbf0bd223be13055f7/aab0fed636b14a5fd52fcae58b484f1cb96b841d/b3f1af4ba8e9cf33aa08c4cdcaa5a17b140521ec/46e69d3dd429b33e50e2731913239f6af4ea2705/fbe67ff37a6fd855a6c097f84f3738bd13d0a898 is able to eliminate this problem.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-48837). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
