A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in phpMyAdmin up to 2.11.9.2 (Database Administration Software). Affected by this issue is the function PMA_escapeJsString. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The PMA_escapeJsString function in libraries/js_escape.lib.php in phpMyAdmin before 2.11.9.2, when Internet Explorer is used, allows remote attackers to bypass cross-site scripting (XSS) protection mechanisms and conduct XSS attacks via a NUL byte inside a "</script" sequence.
The weakness was released 09/23/2008 by Masako Oono (Website). The advisory is shared for download at phpmyadmin.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2008-4326 since 09/30/2008. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
