Details
A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (affected version not known). This affects some unknown functionality of the component SCSI Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
A flaw was found in sg3_utils. The sg_inq command, when invoked with the --export option, outputs device identification data without sanitizing control characters in SCSI name string fields. A newline character embedded in a device-supplied name string can inject arbitrary properties into the udev device database. This could allow an attacker who can present a crafted SCSI device to execute arbitrary commands as root when the device is disconnected.
It is possible to read the advisory at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-16313 since 07/20/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/28/2026). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1055 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
