Details
A vulnerability was found in Oracle JInitiator 1.1.5/1.1.7/1.1.8.3/1.1.8.16/1.1.8.25 and classified as very critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file beans.ocx of the component ActiveX Control. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in the Oracle JInitiator ActiveX control (beans.ocx) 1.1.8.16 and earlier, as used by Oracle Forms applications from Oracle and third parties, allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via unspecified "initialization parameters." NOTE: it was later reported that 1.1.8.3 through 1.1.8.25, and probably 1.1.5.x and 1.1.7.x, are affected.
The bug was discovered 08/28/2007. The weakness was published 08/28/2007 by Will Dormann with CERT/CC as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-4467 since 08/22/2007. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/11/2025).
The exploit is available at d2sec.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25951 (Oracle JInitiator beans.ocx ActiveX Multiple Buffer Overflows), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows and running in the context l.
