Adaltas backmeup up to 0.0.2 Command Execution ssh2-exec name/source/destination/filter os command injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

There is not any exploit available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Adaltas backmeup up to 0.0.2. Affected is the function ssh2-exec of the component Command Execution. The manipulation of the argument name/source/destination/filter with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The backmeup npm package assembles shell command strings by directly concatenating its option values (name, source, destination, filter) - e.g. cmd = "mkdir -p " + path.join(info.destination, info.name) + "; " - and executes the resulting string through a shell via ssh2-exec (locally via child_process, or remotely via SSH when an ssh handle is supplied), rather than using execFile/spawn with an argument array. The only processing applied is path.normalize()/path.join(), which do not neutralize shell metacharacters (;, |, &, $(), backticks, newline). Any application that passes attacker-influenced values into these options (e.g. a user-chosen backup name) is vulnerable to arbitrary OS command execution on the backup host, or on the remote SSH target when one is configured.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-71243 since 08/05/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/05/2026). This vulnerability is assigned to T1202 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
