Details
A vulnerability was found in MIT Kerberos up to 5-1.6.2 (Network Authentication Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function kadm5_modify_policy_internal in the library lib/kadm5/srv/svr_policy.c of the component Administration. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-264. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The kadm5_modify_policy_internal function in lib/kadm5/srv/svr_policy.c in the Kerberos administration daemon (kadmind) in MIT Kerberos 5 (krb5) 1.5 through 1.6.2 does not properly check return values when the policy does not exist, which might allow remote authenticated users with the "modify policy" privilege to execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors that trigger a write to an uninitialized pointer.
The bug was discovered 09/04/2007. The weakness was disclosed 09/05/2007 by Garrett Wollman with MIT CSAIL as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-4000 since 07/25/2007. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
