Buffer overflow in the SQLServer ActiveX control in the Distributed Management Objects OLE DLL (sqldmo.dll) 2000.085.2004.00 in Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager 8.05.2004 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long second argument to the Start method.

The bug was discovered 09/07/2007. The weakness was presented 09/08/2007 by retrogod (Website). The advisory is shared for download at retrogod.altervista.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-4814 since 09/11/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.

A public exploit has been developed by rgod and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at saintcorporation.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
