Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc3 RDMA/siw siw_create_qp race condition

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The affected element is the function siw_create_qp of the component RDMA/siw. Performing a manipulation results in race condition. This vulnerability is cataloged as CVE-2026-68417. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. There is no exploit available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.147/6.12.100/6.18.41/7.1.5/7.2-rc3. It has been classified as very critical. This affects the function siw_create_qp of the component RDMA/siw. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/siw: publish QP after initialization siw_create_qp() currently calls siw_qp_add() before the queues, CQ pointers, state, completion, and device list entry are ready. A QPN lookup can therefore reach a QP that is still being constructed. Move siw_qp_add() to the end of siw_create_qp(), after QP initialization and before adding the QP to the siw device list.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-68417 since 07/30/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/10/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.6.148, 6.12.101, 6.18.42, 7.1.6 or 7.2-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 36e91a58397ca8c978e38a0bf389f0c6113fa8ca/74912ad168f87d6b2b670a87987bb302d6e64aa1/fcc9d50022bcdb1f9f7ed04955c72b4a7355af3d/52f9fcb191143448df55fd215ff09c5207fed43e/bb27fcc67c429d97f785c92c35a6c5adebb05d7f is able to eliminate this problem.
