Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Trusted Computing Group TPM up to 184. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component RSA OAEP Decryption Implementation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a timing discrepancy vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-208. Two separate operations in a product require different amounts of time to complete, in a way that is observable to an actor and reveals security-relevant information about the state of the product, such as whether a particular operation was successful or not. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
A timing side-channel vulnerability exists in the RSA OAEP decryption implementation. A privileged local attacker with access to the TPM command interface may be able to exploit timing differences to recover information that could allow decryption of ciphertexts encrypted to TPM-managed RSA keys, including the RSA Endorsement Key (EK), including import blobs, credential blobs, and session salts. Under certain conditions, this may also enable the forgery of TPM 2.0 attestations. Refer to TCGVRT0011.
The advisory is available at trustedcomputinggroup.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-6727 since 04/20/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
