Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Dibbler 0.6.0. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function tsrvmsg of the file SrvMessages/SrvMsg.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:

Dibbler 0.6.0 does not verify that certain length parameters are appropriate for buffer sizes, which allows remote attackers to trigger a buffer over-read and cause a denial of service (daemon crash), as demonstrated by incorrect behavior of the TSrvMsg constructor in SrvMessages/SrvMsg.cpp when (1) reading the option code and option length and (2) parsing options.

The weakness was published 09/18/2007 by Mu Security with Mu Security research team (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.grok.org.uk. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-5029 since 09/21/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
