CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc3 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function spi_get_device_match_data of the file drivers/mtd/spi-nor/mchp23k256.c of the component mtd. Executing a manipulation can lead to input validation. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-68467. The attack can only be executed locally. There is no exploit available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc3. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function spi_get_device_match_data of the file drivers/mtd/spi-nor/mchp23k256.c of the component mtd. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mtd: mchp23k256: use SPI match data for chip caps The driver stores chip capacity information in both the OF match table and the SPI id table. Probe currently uses of_device_get_match_data(), so a non-OF SPI modalias match falls back to mchp23k256_caps even when the SPI id table selected a different part. Use spi_get_device_match_data() so SPI id-table driver_data is consumed when OF match data is absent. This keeps the existing default fallback while avoiding the wrong MTD geometry for id-table-only matches.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-68467 since 07/30/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.15.212, 6.1.178, 6.6.145, 6.12.97, 6.18.40, 7.1.5 or 7.2-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 2e179b028da9fd628a09286a2c9df4fa076b2cc9/a0c38083623c8b210a5b87fd34bebd05aa935ae8/7c0a3a73dccc9a3fc701f6be762449f18d0ca0fc/dbe2254d1da99c986f9a3392471fc5eaa3229647/04ebd3766861f219325852c9598e0f0281cb3636/09e044192a42f716215fbd1a100ee87fa57426aa/d322e40f4edf92bf0ca329e5aa4ae1c0316feb38 is able to eliminate this problem.
