A vulnerability was found in libpng 1.0.28/1.2.20 (Image Processing Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the file pngrtran.c. pngrtran.c in libpng before 1.0.29 and 1.2.x before 1.2.21 use (1) logical instead of bitwise operations and (2) incorrect comparisons, which might allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted PNG image.
The bug was discovered 10/04/2007. The weakness was presented 10/08/2007 by Tavis Ormandy (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-5268 since 10/08/2007. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
