A vulnerability was found in IBM Lotus Notes 6.x (Groupware Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the component File Viewer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Stack-based buffer overflow in wp6sr.dll in the Autonomy KeyView SDK 10.4 and earlier, as used in IBM Lotus Notes, Symantec Mail Security (SMS) products, Symantec BrightMail Appliance products, and Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP) products, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Word Perfect Document (WPD) file.
The weakness was released 03/18/2009 by iDefense Labs with 0-day (Website). The advisory is shared at labs.idefense.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-4564 since 10/14/2008. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at www-01.ibm.com. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
