The NSURL component in Apple Mac OS X 10.4 through 10.4.10 performs case-sensitive comparisons that allow attackers to bypass intended restrictions for local file system URLs.
The bug was discovered 11/14/2007. The weakness was disclosed 11/14/2007 by Ilja van Sprundel (Sean) with RISE Security (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-4691 since 09/05/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
