Details
A vulnerability was found in IHU I Hear U up to 0.5.6. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function receiver::processpacket of the file player.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
I Hear U (IHU) 0.5.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause (1) a denial of service (infinite loop) via a packet that contains zero in the size field in its header, which is improperly handled by the Receiver::processPacket function; and (2) a denial of service (daemon crash) via an (a) IHU_INFO_INIT or a (b) IHU_INFO_RING packet that does not specify the mode, which is improperly handled by the Player::ring function in Player.cpp.
The weakness was shared 11/20/2007 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is available at secunia.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-6103 since 11/23/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
