Details
A vulnerability was found in MOOS-IvP up to 24.8.1. It has been classified as very critical. This affects the function StringToIvPFunction. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
MOOS-IvP through 24.8.1 contains a buffer overflow vulnerability in StringToIvPFunction() where dimension, piece, and degree counts from encoded BHV_IPF payloads are used as allocation sizes and loop bounds without validation. Attackers can supply crafted payloads with mismatched dimension values to write attacker-controlled doubles past the end of the IvPBox weight array, causing memory corruption and potential code execution.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-85438 since 09/03/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/04/2026).
