A vulnerability was found in RunCMS 1.6 (Content Management System) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file modules/news/submit.php. The manipulation of the argument subject with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Impacted is integrity. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in RunCMS before 1.6.1 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) the subject parameter to modules/news/submit.php; (2) the PATH_INFO to modules/news/index.php, possibly related to the XoopsPageNav class; or (3) an avatar image to edituser.php.
The weakness was presented 12/25/2007 by Alexandr Polyakov (DiGiT) with Digital Security Research Group (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-6545 since 12/27/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed in Perl. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:modules/news/submit.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 1.6 eliminates this vulnerability.
