CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability described as problematic has been identified in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.108/6.18.49/7.2.3. This issue affects the function nsm_sendrecv_msg_locked of the component nsm. The manipulation results in out-of-bounds. This vulnerability is reported as CVE-2026-89743. The attack can be launched remotely. No exploit exists. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.108/6.18.49/7.2.3. Affected is the function nsm_sendrecv_msg_locked of the component nsm. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: misc: nsm: bound the device-reported response length nsm_sendrecv_msg_locked() stores the virtqueue used-ring length reported by the NSM device into msg->resp.len without bounding it to the response buffer. A malicious or buggy backend can report a length larger than the response buffer; parse_resp_raw() then copies that many bytes out of the fixed buffer to user space, disclosing adjacent kernel heap (an out-of-bounds read). The request path already floors its length in fill_req_raw(); the response path lacks the symmetric check. Clamp the stored length to the size of the response buffer. Well-behaved devices report no more than the posted buffer size, so conforming traffic is unaffected.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-89743 since 09/11/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/11/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.109, 6.18.50, 7.2.4 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 339f19b9a6171289b0e797deb8bda80b9a1fcc30/29e634a18957acda11383a15ab98a91c4ae9e294/2aa0fb9c96f894a9c179a48e7522ea6705800adf/808e530654a5354e6df78863a5d61e4d44e67235 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
