Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.50/7.2.4. It has been classified as very critical. Affected is the function decode_range_tlbi of the component arm64. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: arm64: Sign-extend VA for range-based TLBI invalidation When the decode_range_tlbi() helper was moved to be used for S1 TLBIs, the required sign extension was omitted. Add it. As a result, special care must be taken to not overflow PA bits when this is used for S2 invalidation.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-89914 since 09/11/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 09/16/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.18.51, 7.2.5 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 72bce82c4171bf330919ff1b64dc0a36c254ec7d/3feb83918e30f0472e058224b926ebfe8a064fac/2393470085649f0b973ecceb26fe8fc71edde0c1 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
