Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.4. It has been declared as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function cec_receive_notify of the component cec. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: cec: Serialize exclusive follower delivery cec_receive_notify() reads the exclusive follower pointer without the adapter lock. Serialize the no-follower check and message delivery against mode changes and release.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-89897 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally.
