Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in sysadminsmedia Homebox up to 0.25.x. This vulnerability affects the function HandleWipeInventory of the file backend/app/api/handlers/v1/v1_ctrl_actions.go of the component Wipe Inventory. The manipulation of the argument X-Tenant with an unknown input leads to a improper authorization vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-285. The product does not perform or incorrectly performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
HomeBox is a home inventory and organization system. Prior to 0.26.0, HandleWipeInventory in backend/app/api/handlers/v1/v1_ctrl_actions.go authorizes POST /v1/actions/wipe-inventory through the global ctx.User.IsOwner value instead of the caller's role in the active group, while the active group is selected through the X-Tenant request header. Because every self-registered user who creates a group receives the global owner value, a user who is also a member of another group can select that group with X-Tenant and permanently delete its complete inventory, which is not recoverable without external backups. This issue is fixed in version 0.26.0.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-48826 since 05/22/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1548.002.
Upgrading to version 0.26.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
