Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52. It has been classified as very critical. This affects an unknown part of the component drm-amdgpu. The manipulation of the argument bin with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu: fix buffer overflow during vBIOS update Clamp the buffer postion to write by setting the bin attribute to the maximum buffer size so that VFS layer will block the out-of-bounds accessing.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-97425 since 09/24/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/24/2026).
