Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940, 7940G, 7960, and 7960G running SCCP firmware allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (reboot) via a long ICMP echo request (ping) packet.
The bug was discovered 02/13/2008. The weakness was presented 02/14/2008 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at cisco.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-0526 since 01/31/2008. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
