Internet Explorer 5.01 through 6 SP1 allows remote attackers to bypass zone restrictions via a javascript protocol URL in a sub-frame, which is added to the history list and executed in the top window s zone when the history.back (back) function is called, as demonstrated by BackToFramedJpu, aka the "Travel Log Cross Domain Vulnerability."

The issue has been introduced in 11/08/1999. The weakness was presented 11/25/2003 by Liu Die Yu (Website). The advisory is shared at safecenter.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2003-1026. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

The exploit is available at safecenter.net. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1478 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100004 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update Not Installed (MS04-004)).
