Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.111/6.18.53/7.2.7/7.3-rc3. It has been rated as very critical. This issue affects the function ux500_busy_complete/mmci_remove of the component mmci. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mmc: mmci: Fix use-after-free in busy-timeout work ux500_busy_complete() can queue ux500_busy_timeout_work for an R1b command, but mmci_remove() never cancels it. The work can subsequently dereference the devm-allocated mmci_host after it has been released. Mask the controller interrupts and disable the delayed work during removal. This drains any queued instance and stops an IRQ handler that is still in progress from queueing the work again once it has been disabled. This issue was found by an in-house static analysis tool.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-98211 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/06/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.12.112, 6.18.54, 7.2.8 or 7.3-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability.
