A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Microsoft Windows Server 2008/Vista (Operating System). This issue affects the function NtUserCheckAccessForIntegrityLevel. Use-after-free vulnerability in the kernel-mode drivers in Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 and SP2 and Server 2008 Gold and SP2 allows local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (system crash) by using a large number of calls to the NtUserCheckAccessForIntegrityLevel function to trigger a failure in the LockProcessByClientId function, leading to deletion of an in-use process object, aka "Win32k Reference Count Vulnerability."
The weakness was released 07/05/2010 with Microsoft-Spurned Researcher Collective (MSRC) as EDB-ID 14156 / MS10-073 / MS10-098 as confirmed exploit (Exploit-DB). It is possible to read the advisory at exploit-db.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-2549 since 06/30/2010. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
