Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in ExtUtils::Typemaps::STL::Vector up to 1.04. Affected is the function av_extend of the component Typemaps. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-789. The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
ExtUtils::Typemaps::STL::Vector versions before 1.05 for Perl allocate a 32 GiB array on an empty list. The OUTPUT typemaps call av_extend( av, len-1 ). On an empty list, this undeflows, and av_extend will allocate an array with 2^32 slots, leading to memory exhaustion.
The advisory is available at metacpan.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-10076 since 10/08/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 1.05 eliminates this vulnerability.
