Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in KeePassXReboot KeePassXC up to 2.8.0-beta0. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function parseCustomIcons4 of the component Legacy Import. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

KeePassXC is a cross-platform community-driven port of the Windows application KeePass Password Safe. Prior to 2.8.0-beta1, KeePass1 / KDB legacy import retains raw Entry pointers in m_entryUuids after deleting metastream entries. When a crafted, unlockable .kdb file contains an earlier metastream entry followed by a KPX_CUSTOM_ICONS_4 metastream that references the earlier UUID, parseCustomIcons4() calls Entry::setIcon through the stale pointer, causing a heap use-after-free with a controlled write and a reliable process crash. This issue is fixed in version 2.8.0-beta1.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-69150 since 08/03/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
