Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.3 (Database Software). Affected is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:
Unspecified vulnerability in the Change Data Capture component in Oracle Database 10.1.0.5, 10.2.0.3, and 11.1.0.6 has unknown impact and remote authenticated attack vectors related to DBMS_CDC_UTILITY, aka DB02. NOTE: the previous information was obtained from the April 2008 CPU. Oracle has not commented on reliable researcher claims that DB02 is for SQL injection in LOCK_CHANGE_SET.
The bug was discovered 04/15/2008. The weakness was released 04/16/2008 by Esteban Martinez Fayo (Portcullis) with Application Security, Inc. (Website). The advisory is shared for download at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-1815 since 04/15/2008. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. A authentication is needed for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56060 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (April 2008 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19232 (Oracle April 2008 Security Update Multiple Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 6063.
