Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in dlbeer quirc up to 1.2. This affects the function find_alignment_pattern of the file lib/identify.c of the component Alignment Pattern Finder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a iteration vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-834. The product performs an iteration or loop without sufficiently limiting the number of times that the loop is executed. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
quirc through 1.2 contains an excessive-iteration vulnerability in find_alignment_pattern() in lib/identify.c that allows attackers to hang quirc_end() with a crafted image. Attackers can arrange three finder patterns producing a near-degenerate perspective transform, causing billions of region_code() iterations that exhaust CPU in applications decoding attacker-supplied QR images.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-110596 since 10/14/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy.
