Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in OW2 ASM up to 9.10. This issue affects the function MethodWriter.computeMaxStackAndLocal of the component MethodWriter. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
OW2 ASM 3.0 before 9.11 contains a quadratic memory allocation vulnerability in MethodWriter.computeMaxStackAndLocal() and computeAllFrames() when using COMPUTE_MAXS or COMPUTE_FRAMES. Attackers can supply a crafted class file with thousands of overlapping exception handlers, causing excessive Edge allocations and an OutOfMemoryError that crashes the JVM.
It is possible to read the advisory at gitlab.ow2.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-110260 since 10/13/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy.
