This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Node Manager. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource management vulnerability. ovalarmsrv in HP OpenView Network Node Manager (OV NNM) 7.51, 7.53, and possibly other versions allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via certain requests that specify a large number of sub-arguments, which triggers a NULL pointer dereference due to memory allocation failure.

The bug was discovered 04/07/2008. The weakness was presented 04/16/2008 by Luigi Auriemma with Secunia Research (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-1852 since 04/16/2008. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
