Adobe Flash Player up to 10.x memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as very critical has been detected in Adobe Flash Player up to 10.x. The impacted element is an unknown function. Performing a manipulation results in memory corruption. This vulnerability is cataloged as CVE-2010-3654. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Furthermore, there is an exploit available. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player up to 10.x (Multimedia Player Software). It has been classified as very critical. This affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Adobe Flash Player before 9.0.289.0 and 10.x before 10.1.102.64 on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris and 10.1.95.1 on Android, and authplay.dll (aka AuthPlayLib.bundle or libauthplay.so.0.0.0) in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.x through 9.4, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via crafted SWF content, as exploited in the wild in October 2010.

The bug was discovered 10/28/2010. The weakness was shared 10/28/2010 by Adobe with Verschiedene (siehe Adobe Advisory) (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-3654 since 09/28/2010. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 12/08/2024). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.

A public exploit has been developed in Ruby and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as attacked. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 75420 (openSUSE Security Update : acroread (openSUSE-SU-2010:1030-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118667 (Adobe Flash Player Unspecified Code Execution Vulnerability (APSB10-26)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at adobe.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (16667), Zero-Day.cz (87), Tenable (75420), SecurityFocus (BID 44504†) and OSVDB (68932†). The entries VDB-4211, VDB-4210, VDB-4213 and VDB-55381 are related to this item. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
