Details
A vulnerability was found in Anthropic Claude Agent SDK up to 0.2.120. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the component CLI Argument Parsing. The manipulation of the argument resume with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Claude Agent SDK is a Python SDK for Claude Code. Prior to 0.2.121, the resume option is passed to the Claude CLI as a separate token without validation, so a dash-leading value is parsed as an independent CLI flag. An attacker can inject the --mcp-config flag to define a stdio MCP server, causing arbitrary command execution at CLI startup outside the SDK permission controls. The issue is exploitable when an application passes untrusted input as the session ID to resume. This issue is fixed in version 0.2.121.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-96620 since 09/23/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 0.2.121 eliminates this vulnerability.
