CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as problematic has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.112/6.18.55/7.2.9/7.3-rc5. This issue affects the function ma35d1serial_probe of the component ma35d1serial. The manipulation leads to release of resource. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-98746. Local access is required to approach this attack. No exploit exists. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.112/6.18.55/7.2.9/7.3-rc5 and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function ma35d1serial_probe of the component ma35d1serial. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a release of resource vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-772. The product does not release a resource after its effective lifetime has ended, i.e., after the resource is no longer needed. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: serial: ma35d1: Fix clock reference leak in ma35d1serial_probe() of_clk_get() returns a clock with a reference that has to be released with clk_put(). ma35d1serial_probe() never does that, so the reference is leaked on the probe error paths and also when the port is removed. Release it on the error paths and in ma35d1serial_remove().

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-98746 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. Additional levels of successful authentication are required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 6.12.113, 6.18.56, 7.2.10 or 7.3-rc6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 547c742f3b4acd4634eec47e9bff8731b55059a0/d8233d6b391b4cd87df6e89056c21496df7a3012/1b303d383089aae7f20ad19fee15690486b935cb/98401cf912fe8a081ef8e500c421b6d957b55a99 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
