CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.111/6.18.54/7.2.8/7.3-rc4 and classified as very critical. This vulnerability affects the function dissolve_free_hugetlb_folio of the component hugetlb. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/hugetlb: do not dissolve gigantic pages without runtime support dissolve_free_hugetlb_folio() doesn't check hstate_is_gigantic_no_runtime(h) though remove_hugetlb_folio()/ update_and_free_hugetlb_folio() silently bail for such folios, so it frees a still-listed folio and, on vmemmap restore failure, the add_hugetlb_folio() rollback corrupts the free list.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-98506 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/18/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.112, 6.18.55, 7.2.9 or 7.3-rc5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch ddc1055b557506a6ea8930dfbd8d1555d6a3f01e/ccf96a4b8626a001c13c5836d8357f31c57bbd8e/443628f755b35bf45044f68b970b65cd531c42fd/a363c62a653cc8b3e21da9545fa4e028ef50f9c3 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
