Linux Kernel up to 7.3-rc4 samsung-dsim samsung-dsim.c samsung_dsim_register_te_irq denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.157/6.12.111/6.18.54/7.2.8/7.3-rc4 and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function samsung_dsim_register_te_irq of the file samsung-dsim.c of the component samsung-dsim. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/bridge: samsung-dsim: fix TE GPIO lifetime for host attach When the Exynos DSI driver was generalized into samsung-dsim, the TE GPIO acquisition was switched from gpiod_get_optional() to devm_gpiod_get_optional() while keeping the matching gpiod_put() calls. That combination is wrong for a managed descriptor. However, dropping the puts and keeping the managed get is also wrong: samsung_dsim_register_te_irq() runs from the DSI host attach callback, and host detach/reattach can happen without destroying the device that owns the managed action. A second attach would then request the GPIO again without having released it. Switch back to a non-managed gpiod_get_optional() and keep the explicit gpiod_put() on the request_irq() error path and in samsung_dsim_unregister_te_irq(). [Luca: remove unnecessary comment]

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-98605 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 6.6.158, 6.12.112, 6.18.55, 7.2.9 or 7.3-rc5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 77a43e00c57486a5212ef22d4665cafad62a5d4b/5759bbef951c39d264ac0f47daa4137d01403aea/ebffd70e4877bb7554974cf975a27872f2bb225f/9b796251c3cca45a33a5c859c6818c58aa982277/ada667890773e033d2f40dc94176e3beb930b516 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
