Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in python-pillow Pillow up to 12.x. Affected by this vulnerability is the function PdfParser.next_object_id of the component Pdf Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
Pillow is a Python imaging library. From 5.1.0 until 13.0.0, Pillow takes quadratic time to reserve PDF object identifiers when saving many frames with save_all enabled. PdfParser.next_object_id() repeatedly rebuilds and scans all previously reserved identifiers for every object. An attacker can supply a multi-frame image, including a small APNG with a large declared frame count, to an application that converts it to a multipage PDF. This can consume excessive CPU and deny service. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-112894 since 10/19/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely.
