Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Eclipse ioFog up to 3.9.1. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component WebSocket Upgrade. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper authentication vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-287. When an actor claims to have a given identity, the product does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In Eclipse ioFog Controller versions 3.8.0 through 3.9.1, operator WebSocket upgrades on the exec and log routes do not verify the bearer JWT. The payload is decoded and its groups or roles are used as RBAC subjects. A self-minted token whose groups contain admin matches the built-in admin role, with no account and no RoleBinding. The attacker can open an exec or log session for a microservice or fog whose UUID they already know. HTTP routes are not affected: they verify the token before RBAC. Agent WebSockets verify the fog token and are not affected.
The advisory is shared at gitlab.eclipse.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-113620 since 10/20/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
